The Liner Top Packer is used as an isolation packer on the top of the liner system. It consists of a one-piece sealing element with bonded metal back-up rings and is available with (XTS Top Packer) or without (ITS Top Packer) hold down slips.
The sealing element is an elastomeric sheath which is able to resist high pressures combined with high temperatures and high circulation. The metal back-up rings are designed to make full-circle contact with the casing ID and therefore support the sealing element in case of differential pressure. In order to avoid decompression of the element a special locking ring is integrated. A thread inside the Setting Sleeve for the Setting Tool is used to connect the inner string with the liner system to enable and support setting operations for the Liner Hanger. In order to avoid any premature set of the Liner Top Packer a mechanic lock device is available. This mechanic device ensures that the setting is only possible after releasing the Setting Tool from the Liner.
The Liner Top Packer is mechanically set using a Packer Actuator Sub added in the Liner Hanger Setting Tool.
A special connection inside the Liner Top Packer is used to connect the Running Tool with the Liner Hanger system. Depending on the releasing mechanism the connection can vary in its design and specifications.
